To access a report, click on the title. The Wind/Water Nexus Energy and water are some of Nevada's fastest growing problems. The U.S. Department of Energy's Wind and Hydropower Program is exploring wind energy's role as a solution to our water challenges. This datasheet shows five ways wind can help save water.
Annual Report on U.S. Wind Power Installation, Cost, and Performance Trends: 2007 Published The U.S. Department of Energy Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy has just published the second annual report providing a detailed overview of the developments and trends in the U.S. wind power market. The report reveals the U.S. wind industry experienced unprecedented growth in 2007. Economic Analysis of Nevada's Future Electricity-Generating Alternatives This report dicsusses the environmental consequences, job impacts, cost to ratepayers and economic risks of Nevada's two energy futures -- one based on coal and one based on renewable energy. Laying a Foundation for Nevada's Electricity Future: Generation Facility Uncertainties and the Need for a Flexible Infrastructure This February 2008 report from the Aspen Environmental Group discusses the importance of putting infrastructure in place in advance of power generation facilities. The report makes four specific recommendations: Build a north-south transmission line connecting Sierra Pacific Power Company in Reno with Nevada Power Company in Las Vegas. Establish smaller "collector" power lines for transporting electricity from renewable energy sites to transmission lines. Promote energy efficiency programs and use of power generation on the sites of power users. Construct natural gas storage facilities that would enable electric utilities more flexibility in scheduling gas deliveries for power plant use. AWEA Siting Handbook The purpose of this new handbook is to assist wind energy developers in addressing the regulatory and environmental issues associated with commercial-scale, land-based wind projects within the United States. It is intended to be a guidance document for use in conjunction with other available resources (listed in this document and on the AWEA website) and consultations with environmental professionals and regulators. This handbook should be the starting point in a process of evaluating the environmental impacts, regulatory setting, and compliance requirements relative to the siting of a wind energy project. Comparing Statewide Economic Impacts of New Generation from Wind, Coal, and Natural Gas in Arizona, Colorado and Michigan
Annual Report on U.S. Wind Power Installation, Cost, and Performance Trends: 2006 A detailed overview of developments and trends in the wind power market, including installation-related trends, capacity growth, turbine make and model, project owners and power purchasers can be found in this report. It reviews installed wind project costs, wind turbine transaction prices, project performance and operations and maintenance expenses. The report concludes with an analysis of the domestic wind power market, including grid integration costs, transmission issues and policy drivers. This Department of Energy study describes the Department’s current efforts to promote wind. Wind Energy Multiyear Program Plan for 2007 – 2012 A report describing the Department of Energy’s future plans for wind. |
